The Forge Tradition of Resin
By BTOB Studios · March 28, 2025
In the world of Resin, the forge is not just a place of work. It is a place of memory. Every smith learns their craft from a master who learned it from a master who learned it going back, in some forge lineages, for fifteen generations or more.
The Guild System
The Forge Guilds of Resin control the production and distribution of iron goods across the realm. They are not a military organization — but they are treated as one by the Order of Taryn, which has taxed and regulated them for four centuries.
The tension between the guilds and the Order is one of the oldest political fault lines in Resin. When Hrafn’s army marches, the guilds have a choice: supply the Order’s army, or withhold and watch both sides weaken. Several have chosen the latter.
Why Thor Chose a Smith
The lore of Barow’s world holds that Thor’s power does not seek warriors — it seeks makers. The hammer chooses the person whose hands understand creation: the smith who shapes metal, the architect who shapes stone, the farmer who shapes earth.
Barow is the first smith to be chosen in three hundred years. The last one, according to Jormund’s records, ended the previous Xevis incursion. The records do not say how. They do say that the hammer was returned to Le’Sender’s workshop afterward for “significant restoration work.”
