Hurley

Before the invasion, Hurley was the village butcher of Eldham. He was forty-three years old, slightly overweight, and had never held a weapon in anger. The day Hrafn’s army came through, he picked up a cleaver and stood in the doorway of his shop and did not move.

He survived. Six of Hrafn’s soldiers did not. Since then, Hurley has discovered that the same instincts that made him a good butcher — patience, precision, an understanding of where things are weak — make him a terrifying commander.
